Distractions and Scope

Groundhog, eatingWell, not a lot to write about this week in Cameron's writing world.  The November Poem-A-Day winner was announced on Groundhog Day.  I was not one of the finalists, but hey, that's OK by me.  It got me to write a whole bunch of poems in a short time, and I learned a little about my writing style in the process.  My congratulations also go out to the winners...

Now, if you read my ramblings here regularly, you may notice that this post is coming late on THURSDAY and not at 8:00 AM WEDNESDAY as I typically like to post (or, more accurately, schedule my posts to appear).  The excuses reasons for the delay are many, including sick child, ice storm, excessive amounts of work, etc.  Honestly, I just didn't prioritize to get it done.  Which, honestly, makes me wonder if that's supposed to be some allegorical tie-in to how when I complain about not getting as much writing stuff done as I would like, it is most likely due to my prioritization and letting other useless wastes of time like watching television projects come first.  Something for me to ponder, I guess.

The other thing I have been thinking about this week as I stop, sputter, and stall on my "where to begin" mission for my revision that now has a full outline typed up and ready to go is about the overall scope of the work.  What I mean by that is that it is a relatively small story with some international business implications tied in.  When I read thrillers off the best-sellers list, there is a grandiose scope and implication to the book (plot-wise, not thematically) that my story could use.  Trying to figure out how to add that level of depth and meaning is daunting indeed.  Reading through the winning P-A-D poems made me realize there's a local scope to many of my poems as well, though some have a grand edge to them.  Anyway, if I figure out how to sprinkle that worldwide spice into either, I will let you know.  If you have suggestions, let me know.  Hopefully I will get back on track next week.
