Already Time for a Productivity Boost!

Fountain-pen-nibSo, April is ALMOST upon us, and that means it is time for the 2011 April Poem-A-Day Challenge hosted by Robert Lee Brewer of Writer's Digest Poetic Asides blog.

Last November, I used the Poem-A-Day Chapbook Challenge to jumpstart a bit of poetry writing, and managed to finish (in lieu of finishing a rather bland NaNoWriMo novel), and it managed to get me writing more and more poems and getting them "out there" so to speak.  I currently have 38 poems floating in the ether that is literary magazine editorial desks, and I have poems scheduled to appear here on the poems site weekly through the end of May (at least).

So what can I possibly gain from yet another challenge?  Well - here's my hopes:
  • Just more writing -  More writing is good for me, and helps push me to keep up
  • A free contest to enter - Competition is fun, and this one only requires my five favorite poems of the month, not a chapbook
  • A turbo-boost to the jumpstart I already got - OK, so maybe the car is rolling, even rolling fast, but time to press the NO2 button.  Perhaps this "second jumpstart" gives me some fuel to get my submitted poem count up to 75 and schedule poems on my site through, say... November?
  • A break? step away from the novel for a few - this should let me think and stew on the idea I have, and potentially come back a little stronger when it is time to plot away
Is there anything else I should be shooting for?  What do you think?  And are you up to the challenge of writing a poem every day?  The prompts are free, at least :)

  2. Thanks! Same to you. I always enjoy external forces providing motivation to my internal procrastinator.
