Friday Links

Here's a few things I read/found/whatever this week.

Harry Potter for Writers - just an interesting blog altogether - I am going to follow for a while and see what I see.
Definition of a "High Concept" Premise - I think mine are much too execution-focused to be high concept
Teen view on Late- or Post-Teen Protagonists (or why we need "New Adult")
Author Branding on Twitter - I apparently needed a profile update per this so I did.
Writing interesting sentences - If you can stomach the Twilight reference, haha, this is great.
ABCs of Characters - aka why my minor characters need better backstory so that I can clearly define their motivations.
Sprinkling your backstory throughout
Overview of Emergency Personnel arrival on a crime scene - good for mystery writers like me
101 Writing Blog Post Ideas - several of which I will steal and utilize here because there are lots of good ideas to spark some discussion and or reflect on my own process here
Ten Things to Indicate You Are a Published Writer - Funny Funny

Not too writing releated but this article on accents on Twitter to me comes to a wrong conclusion but the data is interesting nevertheless.  First off, I don't think it is "accents" so much as "regional slang" when typed.  And I don't think it arises from a "need to communicate their identity — their cultural identity and their geographic identity in social media;" rather, I think it is an outgrowth of the regional communication styles.  Despite the worldwide nature of social media and the internet, the truth is that most people are still using those tools to communicate with people they know offline, aka locally.  Within those social groups, you would expect certain slang to be used and understood, and I would expect that to grow geographically before expanding to general use.  Interesting to see what your tweets say about you geographically, but I think this article (and perhaps the study) missed the point.

Finally - this may be the future market for books:
