This year, I have done some interesting things, definitely, with getting poems out into space, submitting forty or fifty out at a time. Along the poetry front, I also completed the November Poem-A-Day challenge and entered the contest, and I have written enough poems to have one scheduled (at this point) every Tuesday through March - skipping April for that poem-a-day challenge - and then one Tuesday in May. By May, I should be able to have scheduled for most of the rest of the year I would think.
I learned some interesting things from not finishing NaNoWriMo this year, and I will say that "finish NaNoWriMo" won't make my 2011 resolutions list for the first time in a while as a result. But I am still not sure what will. I can't bite off more than I can chew (finishing novel revision?) or resolve things that are at least partially outside of my control (get a book deal?), so I need to find some resolutions that are workable.
Most likely I will try to submit several more poems into the submission void and keep writing more and more. I do want to make large strides in my novel revision, so we will see how that pans out, but I am not yet committing myself to finishing it. Beyond that, who knows.
What's in your "writing resolution" bucket for 2011?

My biggest goal for the new year is consistency. I want to write 1,000 words per day, and I want to generate one short story per week. If I end up working on a novel, the short story goal will likely be set aside, but I just need words.
ReplyDeleteAlong with that is finishing editing. I decided to nuke a manuscript for a rewrite, and I just hope I have the drive to edit it when its done.
Hi Tony - agree with the consistency and editing. I don't think I could pull off 1000 words a day, but some consistency just with "getting work done" every week would be great for me. Perhaps trying to keep posting here on Wednesdays about my progress (or lack thereof) is enough to keep me writing, editing, and submitting (poetry, novels, etc.).
