Happy Cinco de Mayo, writing folks!!!
OK, so I have postponed writing on my novel for now... I think that basically I plan to write some more on two days off that I have coming up - might have to take my laptop somewhere around town and crank out 3000 or 4000 words. Doesn't look like I will finish by first week of May (as planned), but hopefully still will be able to finish the first draft in May. What I have started thinking about doing, though, is writing some other stuff. So I have decided to write some minimally-edited content just to produce, produce, produce.
So, in novel-procrastination, so far I have actually done some web work, synching the colors and looks of most of my websites, and generated some nicely scheduled poetry on Tuesdays for the rest of the month. Then I will try to keep up my regular Wednesday here, and might try to create a quick flash fiction of sorts. We shall see.
Anyway, I guess the point is that I am writing and creating something, which certainly relieves the pressure from the valve and prevents a boilover. I have heard writers say things like "if you can be happy doing anything else, do it" and "it isn't what you want to do, it is what you have to do" and sometimes I feel that is the case, but switching gears can help me to get over the chore feeling that sometimes a longer project can take on.
Ultimately, writing novels is what I like doing, and I like having a long-form fiction outlet, but, at times, it does require a high level of time commitment and brainpower that I am not always able or willing to give. So some minimally-edited short pieces seem to be just what the doctor ordered to blast the million words of junk out of my head and let me move on.
